Overview
First, I would like to thank Dave Curry of the The New School. His documentation was the inspiration for this book. Dave’s documentation is still quite useful, but is limited to CAS 5.2.
This book begins at CAS 6.1.6 and where appropriate mentions differences in 6.2. (At the time of this writing CAS 6.2 is still in release candidate.)
CAS is an enterprise single sign-on (SSO) product that began as a Jasig project. (Jasig is a group of university IT professionals who write open source Java software for higher education.) Since then, Apereo has funded the project with the Misagh Moayyed as their lead developer.
WARNING
CAS is huge! There are so many components, features and options that you cannot learn it all. This document does NOT get into the more esoteric aspects of CAS.
For the most part we will focus on the components we use most at my employer. If there is a particularly interesting aspect, it may get researched and a cursory example provided.
If there is feature you would like documented, that will be considered. You can drop a line on the cas-user list.
